Atlanta Chapter Location Marker

The Atlanta Chapter has just recently been revitalized in the summer of 2020.

Our chapter leader would love to get to know new and seasoned Eagles in the area, and plan social, service and game-day events!

If you have any ideas you'd like to share for specific events or if you'd like to become more involved in the chapter, please reach out to us!

Meet Your Chapter Leaders

Martin Maffei Headshot

Heather Dean '94

Lives in: John's Creek, Georgia

Major: Elementary Education/Minor in Psychology

Occupation: Director of Sales and Outreach for a BPO Company

Favorite BC Memory: Wonderful, smart, fun, driven roommates and friends I met at BC, who are some of my strongest most enduring friends to this day.  I also truly feel the unparalleled 'people factor' of the folks who work within BC.  Quality of utmost caliber and generosity of their talent, time and ideas.  I loved meeting them back at school and now.

Why did you get involved in your local chapter?: I love Boston College.  I love the commitment to 'bettering' people's lives within the BC culture, and I was always very impressed with the folks who run the NYC chapter-their agileness to host on topic and current events and create a warm environment where everyone felt comfortable to join and get involved.

Fun Fact: I love music, art, and Broadway shows.

Atlanta Chapter Leader: Jamal Halepota

Jamal Halepota '09

Lives in: Atlanta, GA

Major: Economics; Islamic Civilizations and Societies

Occupation: Senior Account Executive, Microsoft

Favorite BC Memory: Eve Spangler's Social Justice in Israel and Palestine course and trip

Why did you get involved with your local chapter: Having lived in NYC, Boston, and DC, I had a tremendous experience with the BC Communities in those cities. When I moved to Atlanta, I wanted to replicate those experiences and create a home for BC alums, friends, and families in the Atlanta area.

Fun fact: My first job out of BC was working for United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, working on energy and environmental legislation - I authored several bills which have become law!

March 2025

  • Exploring the Journey of Military Families
    27 March 2025 at 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ET
Join the Boston College Veterans Alumni Network for a special presentation on the unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs of being a member of a military family. Dr. Julie Canfield will highlight some of the significant experiences that are unique to military families including how different family members experience the transition into and out of the military culture in distinct ways. Our all-volunteer military families experience incredible stresses through peace and war unlike those experienced by the greater civilian population including the ever-present threat to families during wartime service. Learn some of the ways in which military families adjust and adapt to these experiences and thrive in the midst of them. Julie Canfield, Ph.D., LICSW, is a clinical instructor in the BC School of Social Work and a licensed clinical social worker in private practice in the Boston area where she specializes in providing behavioral healthcare to service members, veterans, spouses, partners, military children and families impacted by military service. She has been a strong military advocate on campus for student veteran success in higher education and recently authored and published a book on resilience in military family life. Deadline for registration is Friday, March 21, 2025. Questions? Please email bcvets@bc.edu.
